DRESSING FOR WINTER
Head to Toe
|
EVERYONE
SHOULD WEAR A HAT! |
START WARM
The Turtleneck is the garment most recommended by Americans for keeping
warm in winter (based on a survey of several friends & family
members) |

CHOOSE CLOTHES MADE OF WARM MATERIALS
Some good choices for warm winter clothes are knits, flannel, corduroy,
and wool.
Caution:
Some people get a rash if they wear wool next to their skin. Be sure
you aren't allergic to wool before you spend a lot of money on woolens.
|
WEAR LAYERS
Wear a sweater over a shirt or a sweater over a turtleneck, even try
two sweaters together (really!).
As parents all over the north say to their
children – if you're cold, put on a sweater.
|
WEAR
A HAT AND GLOVES
Note: Acrylic is not warm!
Mittens are warmer than gloves. Mothers put mittens on young children
for this reason.
Caution: The disadvantage is that it is difficult
to pick things up while wearing mittens. |

WEAR A SCARF
Try to find one made of either fleece (fleece is a material
something like that sweatshirts are made of) or wool.
|
GET A
WARM COAT
The parka style is good. Try to get one with an outer layer that is
both wind resistant and waterproof. Make sure it has a good warm middle
layer.
A hood is a real bonus on windy days. |

WEAR BOOTS ON YOUR FEET
Boots are good for keeping your feet both warm and dry. Get a pair that
is waterproof and lined. If you must choose, go for lined. You can buy
stuff to waterproof your boots at a shoe store.
If your feet are still cold, wear two pairs of socks. Wool is nice and
warm. Cotton is good to wear against your skin.
|
Note: Buy heavy and/or
bulky items like coats and boots here.
